| It's best to remove as much as you can. Right now I only remove the capacitors, IC and transistors. Test them, clean their leads and retin them with new solder before I reinstall them. For the other components I just remove as much of the old solder as I can and then resolder them. The boards have many connections that can go wrong especially because of the feed through holes. I do guarantee my work though so if there is a failure I'll replace the board with a known good one I have on hand at no extra charge. I usually scrap the returned board rather then spend time trying to repair it a second time. This is only with the older style boards like the one in the pictures. I dont believe I've ever had a failure with the newer style boards I've repaired.
